Jakarta. Just 15 minutes after his inauguration on Wednesday (23/03) a district head in West Java announced that he would be participating as a candidate in the province's gubernatorial election in 2018.
Tasikmalaya district head Uu Ruzhanul Ulum was sworn in by West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan in the provincial capital, Bandung, on Wednesday morning.
After the ceremony however, Uu did not stay in the provincial government's office for long, rushing instead to meet his supporters, who had been waiting for him outside, Kompas.com reported.
Still in his ceremonial uniform, Uu climbed onto the back of a truck his supporters had prepared and told them that he would be running for governor.
Uu told the crowd that his party, the United Development Party (PPP), had made the decision that he should run for governor.
"As a cadre, I am ready [to run] because a cadre must be ready to be assigned anywhere [the party says]," he said in his speech.
When asked by reporters whether he thinks his announcement was too soon, Uu said he needed all the publicity he could get.
"Especially considering the fact that I am not well known. I have no network," he said, as quoted by the news portal.
