Yogyakarta Hosts Two International MICE Events
Jakarta. Two international MICE events were held in Yogyakarta in the first week of August.
The 11th International Congress of Tropical Pediatrics, held on Aug. 5 at Alana Hotel, saw in attendance participants from Australia, China, Switzerland, Thailand, Pakistan, Netherlands, Malaysia, Germany, Kenya and Turkey.
The Asian Youth Day event, on Aug. 2-6, drew around 3,000 people from 22 countries to Jogja Expo Center.
During the two events and with arrivals of European tourists, for whom it is now the summer holiday season, Yogyakarta's hotel occupancy reached 99 percent.
Yogyakarta is considered a perfect choice for MICE (meeting, incentive, convention, and exhibition) tourism as the city offers adequate facilities, good hospitality and numerous cultural heritage sites, including the world's famous Borobudur and Prambanan temples.
Thousands of visitors also wanted to see the places that attracted former US President Barack Obama during his recent trip to Indonesia, and to experience the culinary site of the city.
"I'm very impressed by Yogyakarta. After the congress, I'll visit Borobudur and Prambanan," World Health Organization (WHO) Southeast Asia office adviser Rajesh Mehta said.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said the two MICE events had a big value for tourism as both were covered by the international media.
