Soekarno-Hatta Will Be the Main Arrival Gate to 2018 Asian Games
Jakarta. Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, is going to be the main arrival gate for the 2018 Asian Games participants and guests.
Soekarno-Hatta is the nearest international port to the main venue of the games, the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex in South Jakarta.
The Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (Inasgoc) held a coordination meeting with the provincial government of Banten, airport operator Angkasa Pura, the Immigration Office and the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police on Thursday (07/09).
According to Inasgoc chairman Erick Thohir, although no competitive matches during the games will be hosted by Banten, the province will play a role in the international guests' first impression of Indonesia.
"The role of the airport during the games will be very important. The airport will be the first to create Indonesia's image in the guests' minds," Erick said.
Inasgoc government relations director Raja Parlindungan Pane, who initiated the meeting, said that discussed were also tings beyond the airport's technical issues.
"We also talked about promotion, traffic engineering and operations around the airport during and after the games opening ceremony. We want to make sure we'll be able to detect problematic issues earlier and address them in advance," Raja said.
Before the meeting with Banten, similar coordination meetings were held by Inasgoc with other regional governments involved — South Sumatra, West Java and Jakarta.
