Top Long Jumper Maria Londa Clears Fever Hurdle in Rio
Jakarta. Indonesia's top athlete, long jumper Maria Natalia Londa, has recovered from a sudden fever after arriving in Rio de Janeiro ahead of this month's Olympic Games.
Maria came down with a fever on Tuesday (02/08), with coaches giving her the day off to recover. The move has paid off with Maria in a better condition after receiving treatment from a team of doctors.
"[Maria] needs two days recovery and we have to start training quickly as we're running out of time," coach Ketut Pageh said in a statement on Wednesday.
"We had late progress caused by a delay to processing for training facilities and equipment, so it has hampered Maria's preparation. But, I've told her not to lose the game before we even start it."
Maria is the country's top athlete after taking out gold medals in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, and the 2015 Southeast Asia Games.
Maria will be joined by Sudirman Hadi, competing the men's 100 meters sprint, representing Indonesia on the athletics field.
