Jakarta. Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama will face court on Dec. 13 in a high profile alleged blasphemy and harassment case, a court spokesman said Monday (05/12).
North Jakarta District Court spokesman Hasoloan Sianturi said the first trial will begin 9 a.m. next Tuesday at the court's temporary building on Jalan Gajah Mada in Central Jakarta.
H. Dwiarso Budi Samitarto, head of the court, has been appointed presiding judge and will be assisted by judges Jupriyadi, Abdul Rozak, Joseph V. Rahantoknam and I Wayan Wirjana.
The case will be open to the public, but those wishing to attend the hearing will have to follow procedure.
“Whether the television stations are allowed to broadcast the event live will be decided by the presiding judge during the first hearing,” Hasoloan said on Monday.
Basuki is charged with articles 156 on harassment and 156a on blasphemy under the Indonesian Criminal Code. He could face up to five years in prison for harassment and four for blasphemy if convicted.
