Ahok-Djarot Campaign Claims Voters Intimidated at Polling Stations
Jakarta. A spokeswoman for the Ahok-Djarot re-election campaign alleges that voters were intimidated at several polling stations in the capital on Wednesday (19/04).
The campaign team of incumbent Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said it received reports of voter intimidation at polling stations in several areas, including Duri Kosambi, Duren Sawit, Kebayoran Lama, Kelapa Gading, Kebon Jeruk, Petojo Selatan, Tanah Abang and Lebak Bulus.
"The worst instances of coercion occurred in Duri Kosambi, where voters were verbally threatened by supporters of rival pair Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno," Ahok-Djarot campaign spokeswoman Emmy Hafild said during a press conference at the Pullman Hotel in Central Jakarta.
Emmy believes the intimidation was targeted only against Ahok-Djarot voters.
The campaign team has expressed its appreciation to the National Police for working to foil the so-called Al-Maidah Picnic, a mass demonstration planned by hardline Muslim groups to "monitor" voting at several polling stations.
Emmy expressed hope that security personnel will work to resolve all instances of intimidation at the polls.
