Dangdut King Rhoma Evasive on Support for Lulung's Candidacy
Jakarta. Indonesian dangdut singer Rhoma Irama, who is the chairman of the Idaman Party, only smiled when asked whether he would support the candidacy of Abraham Lunggana, better known as Lulung, in the capital's gubernatorial election next year.
Lulung, who is a member of the Islamic-based United Development Party (PPP), visited Rhoma at his home in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, on Friday (18/03) in a bid to secure his support.
Lulung was optimistic that he would gain the Idaman Party's support but Rhoma declined to give any indication whether he would throw his weight behind the current deputy speaker of the Jakarta Legislative Council.
"According to Lulung, his courtesy visit signifies an agreement that we are on the same page on various issues in the struggle for Jakarta," Rhoma said.
The Idaman Party chairman was also evasive when asked about a possible coalition with the PPP, of which Lulung is a regional leader.
"It was explained earlier that we are on the same page. I think that much is clear," Rhoma answered abruptly.
When asked whether Rhoma would join as Lulung's running mate in next year's election, the self-styled king of dangdut said he had not considered that possibility yet, because the preparatory process was still far from ideal.
