Jakarta. Anies Baswedan and his running mate Sandiaga Uno attracted most of the votes at the Rawa Bebek government flats in Cakung, East Jakarta, where people evicted by incumbent Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama were relocated.

The pair won 148 of the 360 votes cast at the complex, while Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni won 124, Antaranews.com reported on Wednesday (15/02). Ahok and his deputy only won 80.

Polling station officials said 412 people living in the complex were eligible to vote but that only 360 did so, with eight of the ballots being void.

Local media reports said around 600 residents of the complex were not allowed to vote because they were not registered in the area.

The result indicates deep dissent among the residents, who lost their homes in Bukit Duri, a slum area on the banks of the Ciliwung River in Tebet, South Jakarta, and in Pasar Ikan and Luar Batang in North Jakarta.

"My home was demolished," one voter exclaimed amid cheers, Antaranews.com reported.

Anies and Sandiaga also won most of the votes at three polling stations in Bukit Duri Tanjakan in South Jakarta, which is near the demolished slum area. Ahok previously decided to forcibly evict people living along the riverbanks to normalize the Ciliwung River as part of efforts to prevent frequent flooding in the capital.

Anies and Sandiaga promised during their campaign that they would not use force in dealing with people leaving on riverbanks. The candidate pair also promised a cheap loan scheme to encourage private home ownership by Jakarta residents.
