Incumbent Mayor Wins in Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta. Incumbent Mayor Haryadi Suyuti has won the 2017 Yogyakarta mayoral poll as the electoral commission announced the results on Friday evening (25/02).
Haryadi and his running mate Heroe Poerwadi collected 100,333 votes (50.29 percent), while their contenders Imam Priyono and Achmad Fadli got 99,146 (49.71 percent).
Yogyakarta Election Commission (KPUD) chairman Wawan Budiyanto said Heroe Poerwadi will be appointed to the office on Mar. 8.
"If the losing candidates contest the results, we will wait for the Constitutional Court's ruling," Wawan told reporters.
The law allows losing candidates to contest the election, as the vote difference is less than 1.5 percent.
Imam Priyono-Achmad Fadli campaign team leader Danang Rudyatmoko said his team is preparing evidence to challenge the results.
Haryadi and Heroe were running on the National Mandate Party (PAN), Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Democratic Party and Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) tickets.
Meanwhile, Imam and Achmad were supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and National Democratic Party (NasDem).
