Jakarta. Jakarta Governor-elect Anies Baswedan and his deputy, Sandiaga Uno, have confirmed that their administration will continue with the implementation of the e-budgeting system when they take over from incumbent Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and his deputy, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, in October.

Sandiaga said they would ensure that the regional budget is used for the public benefit and avoid hidden proposals.

"We will continue the programs that have been implemented well during Mr. Basuki and Mr. Djarot's administration, such as the e-budgeting system – one of the public's main demands for transparency," Sandiaga said in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/04).

He said they would continue with the open governance concept, based on transparency, public participation and efficient processes.

However, he did not elaborate on the type of processes.

Anies and Sandiaga will also change procurement practices for goods and services to support small and medium enterprises.

The governor-elect previously said he would increase budget spending in the capital to benefit the public.

"E-budgeting should be directed to benefit the interests and welfare of the public, while maintaining accountability and transparency," Anies said.

The former education minister said he would also make the e-budgeting system more effective, with inputs from the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD).

Naufal Firman Yusak, a spokesman for Anies and Sandiaga, later clarified the governor-elect's statement.

"So far, it has been appeared as if the e-budgeting system will not function properly if the governor does not oppose the DPRD. Actually, the DPRD is a partner for the administration. If it is for the greater good, the DPRD will approve it. It is only how to communicate it," Firman said.
