PDI-P Secretary General Says 'Public Still Supports Ahok-Djarot'
Jakarta. Hasto Kristiyanto, secretary general of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, or PDI-P, visited several neighborhoods in East Jakarta on Monday (06/02) in support of incumbent Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama.
Hasto was accompanied by PDI-P leadership board chairwoman Wiryanti Sukamdani and Ady Widjaya, chairman of the party's Jakarta branch.
They distributed plaid shirts, similar to those that have become iconic of Ahok and his running mate Djarot Saiful Hidayat, and also explained aspects of the candidate pair's policies and programs.
"The 'blusukan' [impromptu visit] we conducted shows that the public will not be shaken. They have welcomed us enthusiastically. It can only happen because they have directly benefitted from the leadership of Ahok and Djarot," Hasto said at the end of his visit to Cililitan in East Jakarta.
"Ahok's leadership has resulted in the public not having to worry about schools and their families' health, as these are fully guaranteed by Ahok's policies," he added.
Hasto also encouraged residents not to hesitate to vote for Ahok and Djarot.
"The people who have directly experienced Ahok-Djarot's programs will not be shaken by any political intimidation. We are proud that they have moved spontaneously as the majority voice that had previously kept silent. But now they are voicing their support for Ahok and Djarot. The spirit of Ahok-Djarot supporters has become a strong sign of victory," Hasto said.
The party officials proceeded to the Duren Sawit area of East Jakarta, where they bought fried snacks from a street vendor.
Hasto also handed a plaid shirt to the vendor while jokingly saying: "We have one more Ahoker [nickname for Ahok supporters]."
