Sandiaga Uno Summoned as Witness in Land Embezzlement Case
Jakarta. Police have summoned Sandiaga Uno, running mate of Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Anies Baswedan, to be questioned as witness in an investigation over misappropriation of funds during a land sale in 2012, a spokesman said on Monday (20/03).
Sandiaga was reported to police last week for allegedly embezzling money with his business partner Andreas Tjahjad upon selling a plot on Jalan Raya Curug in South Tangerang, Banten.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono said Sandiaga is going to be questioned on Tuesday.
"The case is still investigated. We are questioning him as a witnesses," Argo told reporters in Jakarta.
Yupen Hadi, Anies-Sandiaga's campaign team member, confirmed the summons was received, but was not sure whether Sandiaga will be able to meet it.
"He has a tight campaign schedule. It doesn't seem possible to cancel it," Yupen said.
The police report against Sandiaga was filed by businessman Djoni Hidayat on Mar. 8.
Djoni claimed he had tried to resolve the land dispute through mediation, but Sandiaga and Andreas did not respond positively.
On Friday, Sandiaga was questioned by the Tanah Abang Police on allegations of slander and defamation. He told reporters the accusations were based upon sheer misunderstanding.
Sandiaga and Anies will compete in the second round of Jakarta's gubernatorial election against incumbent pair Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat on April 19.
