Jakarta. Jakarta Police will step up security for the opening session of Jakarta governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama's blasphemy trial to take place at the old Central Jakarta Court building on Dec. 13.

"We will put extra officers in at potential trouble spots," Jakarta Police spokesman Chief Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yowono said on Friday (09/12).

Argo confirmed the trial will use the old Central Jakarta Court building on Jalan Gajah Mada in Central Jakarta, at least for the first session. "So far we've only confirmed the place for the opening session of the trial. We don't know yet where the next sessions will take place," he said.

Argo said the trial location's proximity to the Presidential Palace and other important government offices is not a cause for concern.

"The public is smart and understands the law, people will stay calm. We will make sure everything is safe," he said.

Argo said if a large number of protesters attend the trial and disrupt traffic, there will likely be road detours around the court building.
