Jakarta. Lippo Mall Kemang hosted the "Kemang Beach Party" on New Year's Eve, which featured a line up of pop stars to welcome the new year.

The mall's Avenue of the Stars, an open-air hangout pad surrounded by restaurants and food stalls, was transformed into a makeshift beach complete with coconut trees and beach chairs.

Lanny Kuputri, Lippo Mall Kemang deputy director, said the arena was chosen because it is one of Jakarta's hip hangout spots with live music performances everyday.

"For that reason, we arranged a New Year's Eve party in a style that we knew our visitors would like. The tickets to the Kemang Beach Party were sold out two days before D-day," she said.

"You can see crowds flocking to the restaurants, which started accepting reservations since one week before New Year's Eve," Lanny said in an official statement.

The party kicked off at 8 p.m. with a mini Jember Fashion Carnival, showing 25 unique outfits from the world-famous DIY fashion festival in East Java in 30 minutes.

Vocal duo AMPM were the next cab off the rank, singing five of their hit songs to enthusiastic applause, followed by a sizzling performance by Diva Impersonator.

The most-awaited act of the night was pop and R&B group RAN, who more than met expectation, dazzling the crowd with their collection of hits.

RAN entertained the crowd until nearly midnight, when the countdown to 2017 started.

When the clock struck midnight, fireworks blasted off from four spots around the mall, turning the sky into an impressive light show.

The celebration did not end there, as DJ Regina stepped up to spin some dance tunes, giving visitors an electrifying closure to the night and a pumped up beginning to the new year.

"We're very happy with the Kemang Beach Party. It was a complete success. The amazing crowd did not leave until all the celebrations had ended," Lanny said.

"We wanted to create a memorable experience for our visitors and I think we managed to do just that," she added.
