Matahari Department Store Opens 149th Store, in Lubuklinggau
Jakarta. Matahari Department Store has expanded its network, opening its 149th store at Lippo Plaza in Lubuklinggau, South Sumatra on Saturday (26/11).
Matahari Department Store is strategically located at Lippo Plaza Linggau in Yos Sudarso, a part of Lubuklinggau's city center. The mall is built on 2.3 hectares of land and the store has become the 25th store in Sumatra and the seventh store opened in 2016.
“Matahari Department Store now answers the needs of a complete shopping destination for Indonesian families, especially for residents in Lubuklinggau and its surroundings," Sunny Setiawan, Matahari Department Store operations director, said in a statement.
Matahari has a wide selection of fashion products both for women and men, children and adults including accessories, cosmetics, household appliances, shoes and bags which are available at special prices. The store uses an eco-friendly LED lighting system and is supported by more than 90 brands from all over Indonesia.
“The presence of Matahari at Lippo Plaza Lubuk Linggau is expected to have a positive effect on the citizens in its surrounding area, especially [since we have] employed 220 employees, of which 72 percent are local residents. It is also expected to reduce the number of unemployment in the area, increasing the wealth and quality of life of local residents," Sunny said.
The capital expenditure for each Matahari store is approximately Rp 20 billion ($1.47 billion) to Rp 30 billion per store, derived from its internal cash. Based on financial data from 2015, the total department store sales amounted to Rp 15.9 trillion, a significant increase from the previous year of Rp 14.4 trillion.
