Matahari Opens New Store in Medan, North Sumatra
Jakarta. Matahari Department Store opened its fifth outlet in Medan, North Sumatra, at the Manhattan Times Square shopping mall, on Thursday (08/06).
The mall was chosen because of its strategic location on Jalan Gatot Subroto, the main road that connects Medan and Binjai.
Occupying a space of 6,800 square meters, Matahari sports the latest store concept with a wider space and eco-friendly LED lighting.
Targeting the city's middle class, the store boasts various local and foreign brands of fashion, beauty and home products.
In the opening week, Matahari offers special promotions, such as 2,600 discount vouchers worth Rp 50,000 ($3.75) each for its loyal customers and newspaper discount coupons.
A minimum purchase of Rp 500,000 will be rewarded with a voucher of the same value for the next purchase.
Matahari also aims to benefit neighborhood by employing local workers.
At the store's opening ceremony, donations were made to three orphanages in the area: Permata Hikmah Orphanage, Al Washliyah Orphanage, and Bait Allah Orphanage.
Matahari currently operates 155 stores in 71 cities across Indonesia and one online shop — MatahariStore.com.
Each store has an investment value of Rp 20-30 billion. Based on the 2016 financial statement, the total gross sales of Matahari Department Store reached Rp 17.3 trillion, more compared to Rp 15.9 trillion in the previous year.
