Jakarta. State-owned gas company Perusahaan Gas Negara participated in the 2018 Asian Games torch relay parade in Jambi on Friday (03/08), as one of the official sponsors of the sporting event.
The company was represented by Santiaji Gunawan, group head of strategic stakeholder management, and 30 runners from subsidiary Gas Transportation Indonesia in the torch relay.
"We've sent runners and we've also invited students and everyone in Jambi to join us at the Asian Games torch parade," PGN company secretary Rachmat Utama said in a statement.
Rachmat said those in attendance cheered the runners on during the parade. There were also 1,000 dancers who performed during the main event at the Jambi governor's office.
PGN has been involved in the Asian Games' promotional campaign since May last year, advertising on billboards, banners and venue gates in both Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra, where the event will take place. The company also painted the Asian Games mascots on gas-powered autorickshaws.
The company has also called up runners and cyclists to join the torch relay when it reaches Jakarta.
The Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (Inasgoc) has also asked the company to supply gas for the cauldron at the stadium during the event.
"PGN will be providing one unit of compressed natural gas to supply the cauldron, one food truck at the venue and autorickshaws to transport spectators from the parking lot to the stadium," Rachmat said.
He said PGN would do its best to support Inasgoc and ensure the success of this year's Asian Games, as the sporting world will be paying close attention.
"The 2018 Asian Games adopted the motto 'Energy of Asia,' in tune with our goals to become the best energy company in Asia," Rachmat said.
