Lawmaker Supports Improvements of Air Force Weapon Systems
Jakarta. Charles Honoris, a member of the House of Representatives Commission I, which oversees defense, information, foreign and political affairs, has expressed a desire for newly appointed Air Chief Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto to improve the Air Force's current weapon systems to heighten safety and defense capacity.
“We wholeheartedly agree with the decision not to receive any more grants but replace existing aircraft with new ones. We are prepared to support these measures,” Charles said in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/01).
No more planes should be allowed to crash due to old age or lack of maintenance with military personnel as casualties, Charles said.
“Our soldiers have the right to train and fight using the best weapon systems available,” Charles said.
The lawmaker also said that Hadi’s appointment fits perfectly, as he is a decorated soldier with an outstanding track record in the Indonesian Military, or TNI.
“He understands the current condition of our weapon systems. Within the past two years, various aircraft accidents have prompted the Air Force to conduct weapon management reforms, and Hadi is the perfect person to do that,” he added.
Hadi’s experience as the former inspector general of the Defense Ministry and the former presidential military secretary will also provide additional value to his leadership.
According to the Commission I member, Hadi will understand President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo's mission to enhance the capacity of Indonesia’s aerial defense.
