Screenings, Heightened Security Ahead of Gubernatorial Debate in Jakarta
Jakarta. Every participant of the gubernatorial debate on Friday (13/01) will have to pass through security screening at the debate venue at Bidakara Hotel in South Jakarta.
"At the entrances there will be security screenings. Walk-through metal detectors have been installed," Jakarta Police deputy chief Brig. Gen. Suntana said on Friday (13/01).
The supporters of the three candidate pairs are banned from bringing potentially dangerous items into the debate room.
The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD) has allowed each candidate pair to invite up to 100 supporters.
"[The commission] has requested that no more than 100 people should come [with each candidate pair]. If masses show up, we will set up barricades," Suntana said.
He added that commotion outside the hotel would only disturb the debate and the whole neighborhood, especially as the event will take place in the evening.
More than 1,700 law enforcers will be safeguarding the debate venue.
