Jakarta. Filmmaker Nia Dinata will launch a new romantic comedy series "Switch" on the Viu streaming platform in August, she announced at Decanter Wine and Dine in South Jakarta on Wednesday (15/06).
The series' first season will feature 13 half-hour episodes and follow the story of two best friends, Febby (Tatyana Akman) and Emma (Karina Salim) whose bodies have been "switched," resulting in hilarious mix-ups. Up and coming actors Morgan Oey, Asmara Abigail and Vincent Tio will also star.
Directed by Nia and Pritagita Arianegara ("Sawalaku"), Switch is the second Viu original series from Indonesia after "24 Karat" (24K).
"This is more than just your regular love and friendship story. The stories are fresh, funny and very reflective of our everyday life. The actors and the stories are unique," Nia said.
"The series is going to be different from what we usually see in the cinema or on TV in Indonesia."
Nia enlisted the help of award-winning director Lucky Kuswandi to write for the series and find talented young writers through a scriptwriting competition.
Nia and Lucky held the 2017 Viu Female Story Festival in March and April and found five young scriptwriters to write for the series.
"Nia and I created the big plot and wrote the first five episodes. Our new writers will continue the rest," Lucky said.
"We're still in the middle of production. I hope audience will enjoy it, especially millennials."
Switch will be available to stream on the Viu website or app, available on Google Play and the App Store.
