Indonesia Wins Gold in Karate at 2018 Asian Games
Jakarta. Rifki Ardiansyah Arrosyiid won an 11th gold medal for Indonesia at the 2018 Asian Games by defeating Amir Mahdi Zadeh of Iran in the men's under-60 kilogram kumite final at the Jakarta Convention Center on Sunday afternoon (26/08).
Kumite is one of the three main sections of karate, and involves sparring against an opponent.
Twenty-year-old Rifki won the fight with a score of 9-7.
"Gold from this karate event brings the red-and-white team closer to its target," said Syafruddin, chef de mission of the Indonesian contingent, referring to the colors of the national flag.
Indonesia is still expecting gold medals from bridge, jet ski and badminton, he said.
The country hopes to secure at least 16 gold medals to achieve its goal of reaching the top ten in the medal tally at this year's event.
Indonesian karateka Cokorda Istri Agung Sanistyarani won a bronze medal in the women's 55+ kilogram kumite event on Sunday.
