Indonesia's Under-22 Team to Train in Spain
Jakarta. Indonesia's under-22 national team is scheduled to participate in a training camp that will last for one and a half months in Spain, a director at the Indonesian Football Association, or PSSI, revealed on Wednesday (23/03).
"The next on our agenda is for the [under-22] team to go to Spain for friendly games [and training]," PSSI international relations and media director Hanif Thamrin told the Jakarta Globe on Wednesday.
The team began preparing for Malaysia's 2017 Southeast Asian Games in February, under the supervision of Spanish coach Luis Milla Aspas. Milla and his team will return from Spain in June, giving the team enough time to readapt to the tropical climate before the games commence in August.
"They will tentatively depart on April 15 and come back in early June. We'll conduct training camps in Madrid and Valencia but the opponents have yet to be confirmed," he said.
Indonesia's under-22 squad lost to Myanmar 1-3 in a friendly match at the Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, West Java on Tuesday evening. This was an unfavorable debut for the Spanish coach, who has been in charge of the team since February as well as newly recruited Ajax Amsterdam striker, Ezra Walian.
