Persib Bandung May Sign Foreign Player Ahead of Liga 1 Start
Jakarta. National football club Persib Bandung revealed on its website that the team has offered more than 10 foreign players a spot on the field for this season's Liga 1 set to begin in April.
Persib — which recently signed Ghanaian ex-Chelsea star Michael Essien — still has one slot open for a foreign footballer. Head coach Djadjang Nurdjaman is reportedly interested in signing a striker to join the club's ranks including French-Moroccan former Arsenal striker, Marouane Chamakh.
"A lot of strikers have received offers from Djadjang, including some unknown names as well as more recognized ones such as Michael Uchebo of Nigeria, Serbian ex-Genoa star Bosko Jankovic and former Arsenal player Marouane Chamakh," Persib stated on its website.
"There are more than 10 players interested in playing for us, but we're still undecided about them. From our data, they are all quality players," Djadjang said at Persib's players' dormitory in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday (22/03).
With Liga 1 – Indonesia's top-tier football league – scheduled to kick off on April 15, Persib has little time to decide which player will join the club this season.
"They can't be tested in trials, because they're still active and above 30 years old. I also want them to join us without trials, [this means that] they will require observation," Djadjang said. "We'll have the name by late March," he added.
