PON XIX: Jakarta's Equestrians Bag 10 Medals
Jakarta. Jakarta delivered a strong performance in the series of equestrian competitions at the 19th National Sports Week, or PON XIX, winning four gold and silver medals each and two bronze medals.
Equestrians representing the capital won gold medals in a range of disciplines: two in eventing, one in individual dressage and another in individual jumping.
Jakarta's equestrian team manager, Alex Asmasoebrata, said that the team surpassed expectations by beating their initial target of winning two gold medals.
"The results show that the athletes have worked very hard and were well trained. Both athletes and coaches have been amazing which made us the major winner [in this sport]," Alex said on Sunday (25/09).
Alex added that the team's overall performance has also raised his confidence in the team's ability to represent Indonesia at the Southeast Asia Games in Malaysia next year.
Alex also commended Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama's plans to support the city's athletes by promising bonuses for medalists saying that it incentivizes and motivates athletes.
