Rugby Union Fully Joins Olympic Committee KOI
Jakarta. The Indonesian Rugby, known as PRUI, was recognized as full member of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, or KOI, along with nine other national sports federations at its annual meeting in Bogor, West Java, on Friday.
PRUI considered it as a great boost to promote the sport after it was recognized as member of the Indonesian National Sports Committee in August 2013 and full member of the World Rugby (formerly known as International Rugby Board) in November 2013.
The Union faces two important events this year as Indonesia will host the 2015 Asian Rugby Championship Division 3 East Tournament on June 7-13 in Jakarta, which will feature Indonesia playing 15-a-side Tests against Guam and China, followed by the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, which feature rugby sevens.
Rugby sevens will also feature in the 2016 Rio Games and the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
