Sports Ministry Promises Funds to Groom Quality Football Coaches
Jakarta. The Ministry of Youth and Sports will increase the funds for the Indonesian Football Association, or PSSI, to employ more qualified football coaches.
According to PSSI chairman Edy Rahmayadi, said that Indonesia has only 167 internationally certified coaches.
The ministry met with the PSSI on Monday (12/06) to discuss the matter.
"There are only nine local and nine foreign coaches in our professional leagues with AFC [Asian Football Confederation] A certificate," the ministry's spokesman and secretary general Gatot Dewa Broto said in a statement.
"We are committed to improve the quality of football coaches. We'll fund programs for their education," he added.
Beside grooming more coaches, the government is also serious about nurturing young players and overall football development as means to unite the nation.
