Tontowi, Liliyana Win Second Title in Two Weeks
Jakarta. After victory at China Open last week, Indonesian badminton mixed doubles pair Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir made it two titles in two weeks by also winning the Hong Kong Open Super Series 2016 on Sunday (27/11).
The pair beat Indonesian compatriots Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto in straight sets in the final, 21-19 and 21-17.
"We're very happy to win two titles in two weeks," Liliyana told the Indonesian Badminton Federation website.
"People might think that after winning gold at the Olympics, we would slow down and not think about trophies anymore, but we prove that we can win again at the China Open Super Series Premier and now at the Hong Kong Super Series," she said.
Tontowi and Liliyana have so far beaten their juniors Praveen and Debby three times, one of them at the Rio Olympics quarter-finals last August.
In the semi-finals in Hong Kong, Tontowi-Liliyana beat Hong Kong pair Tang Chung Man and Tse Ying Suet in straight sets, 23-21 and 21-14, while Praveen-Debby saw off South Korea's Choi Solgyu and Chae Yoo Jung in rubber sets.
Tontowi and Liliyana's gold medal is Indonesia's only win at the 2016 Hong Kong Open.
