Twitter Suspends Three FPI Accounts, Reasons Unclear
Jakarta. Social media platform Twitter has suspended three accounts reportedly affiliated with the hardline Islamic Defenders Front, or FPI, on Monday (16/01).
The three accounts suspended by Twitter were @syihabrizieq, an account belonging to FPI leader and firebrand cleric Rizieq Shihab, FPI's official account @DPP_FPI and its public relations division's account @HumasFPI.
It remains unclear what triggered the suspensions.
Twitter Indonesia said as a global communication platform it has clear terms of services to make sure the platform give benefits to and protect users at the same time.
"In order to ensure safety for our users, we can suspend accounts who have violated Twitter rules," Twitter Indonesia said in a statement.
Suspensions are based on reports of violations from users.
According to Twitter regulations, an account can be suspended for several reasons, including for making direct or indirect violent threats, harassment, hateful conduct, multiple account abuse, disclosing private information, impersonation and promoting self-harm.
Twitter Indonesia did not specify which violations the three suspended FPI accounts were guilty of.
