Jakarta. Golkar Party chairman Setya Novanto has condemned the suicide bomb attack on a police station in Solo, Central Java, on Tuesday morning (05/07), which resulted in the death of the attacker and an officer being injured.
"I strongly condemn the terrorist act, especially because it occurred during the holy month of Ramadan, ahead of the Idul Fitri celebrations," Novanto said in Jakarta.
He said he believes the terrorist act in Solo was not only targeted at the Indonesian people, but also against the entire global population.
Novanto said the fact that suicide bombings have also occurred in Saudi Arabia, Paris and Turkey shows that terrorism is still blooming.
"Therefore, I support all efforts by international officials to combat terrorism, as they require extra support and efforts from all of us," he said.
Novanto also advised Indonesians to remain calm and not to be provoked into doing anything detrimental.
"Do not be afraid and do not be provoked by the incident, as it is our responsibility as citizens to maintain harmony and peace among religious communities and assist the government in countering terrorism," he said.
