Indonesian Student Injured in Istanbul Bombing
Jakarta. An Indonesian citizen studying in Turkey was injured in an explosion that shook downtown Istanbul on Tuesday (07/06).
Azwar Abadi Arsyad was hurt when a bomb exploded near the Vezneciler metro station and the Istanbul University's science faculty in the Beyazit area at about 8.50 a.m. local time, killing 11 people and injuring 36.
Azwar, a physics student at the university, received minor injuries to his head after he was struck by a falling piece of ceiling, state news agency Antara reports.
"I thought [there was] an earthquake," Azwar said.
The bomb, which targeted a police vehicle, shattered the windows of nearby buildings. The explosion could be heard two kilometers away. Shots were also heard in the area.
There are at least seven Indonesian students studying in the Istanbul University's science faculty.
Throughout 2016, there have been a series of terror attacks in Turkey.
Twelve German tourists were killed in a bomb explosion in January, and another bombing occurred a month later at a military parade in Ankara, killing 28 people.
In March, 35 people were killed in a terror attack by Kurdish militants in Ankara, while four were killed in a suicide bombing in Istanbul.
