Police Involved in Shootout Against Suspected Terrorists in Cilegon: Reports
Cilegon. The Indonesian police's counterterrorism unit Densus 88 was involved in a shootout with a group of suspected terrorists in Cilegon, Banten, on Thursday afternoon (23/03), according to reports.
According to a witness, heavy shootings started at around 12 p.m. on Jalan Lingkar Selatan in Kepuh, an area in the Ciwandan subdistrict in Cilegon, news site detik.com reported.
A black car was damaged by gunshots but there was no clear information on who were inside the car.
Unconfirmed reports said four suspected terrorists were shot dead by Densus 88 officers.
"It might very well be the case [that they were terrorists]. The National Police will release an official information shortly," Banten Police Chief Brig. Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo responded to an inquiry on the incident.
