More Than 100 Racers Join Atambua International Motocross 2017
Jakarta. Atambua International Motocross 2017 was held at the Haliwen Circuit in Atambua, Belu, East Nusa Tenggara, bordering East Timor on 11-12 November, and saw more than 113 racers participate.
"There are a total of 113 racers, 20 of them are from East Timor. The rest are Indonesian racers from several cities in East Nusa Tenggara," said committee chairman Manuel Da Silva.
Belu vice district head, JT Ose Luan, symbolically opened the event, which was attended by more than 15 thousand audience members.
Haliwen Atambua circuit is strategically located 30 minutes from the Motaain border and only five minutes from Atambua airport.
Deputy for tourism development at the Ministry of Tourism Esthy Reko Astuti said this motocross event is an effective way to attract tourists in the border area.
The Tourism Ministry has continued to boost various events to bring foreign tourists to East Nusa Tenggara, one of which is organizing a border concert featuring national artists like Slank and Jamrud.
"This is the impact of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's visa-free policy so East Timor tourists can visit Indonesia anytime," said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.
In terms of accessibility, A. A. Bere Tallo Atambua airport will also be improved this year so that wide bodied aircraft can fly and land at the airport.
