Angkasa Pura I to Expand Surabaya's Juanda International Airport
Jakarta. State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura I is planning to renovate Surabaya's Juanda International Airport as part of its effort to draw one million tourists to East Java.
"The company has completed preparing the master plan for the Juanda Airport expansion and other supporting facilities. This is all to improve the experience of tourists who come to East Java," AP I commercial and business development director Asrori said on Thursday (31/08).
Asrori said the enterprise is currently applying for the airport city permit.
The next step will be land acquisition after the building construction permit (IMB) is issued.
"The new area for Juanda Airport is estimated to be 1,700 hectares and will be located in the northern part of the airport. The land acquisition is expected to be completed by 2018. Later, the two airport runways have to be more than 1,000 meters for the airplanes to land," Asrori said.
According to Asrori, around 395 airplanes carrying 48,000 passengers land at Juanda Airport each day.
AP I has recently increased the traffic movement from 25 to 27 airplanes per hour to reduce excess passenger capacity, including during the Eid al-Adha holiday.
