East Java's Madura Holds Traditional Music Parade
Jakarta. Music Parade Tong-Tong was held in Sumenep, Madura, East Java, on Friday (27/10), to celebrate Sumenep's 748th birthday.
Tong-tong is a traditional bamboo music instrument, used in Madura to wake people for pre-dawn prayers.
The parade featured 21 art communities from Sumenep and other districts of the island.
"The participants also came from Sampang and Pamekasan," Sumenep district head A. Busyro Karim said.
The parade featured a 20-meter golden cart called UI Daul and 20 musicians performing on tong-tong, gamelan, trumpet and hadrah.
The show attracted thousands of participants.
"This is a party of Sumenep people. The event is always anticipated and the regional government must hold it annually," head of Sumenep Tourism Agency Sufiyanto said.
