Lawmakers Lend Full Support to Sail Indonesia 2017
Jakarta. Members of the House of Representatives have shown their support for an international sailing event "Sail Indonesia 2017," during a visit to Sabang, Aceh on Monday (31/07).
Chairman Teuku Riefky Harsya of House Commission X — which oversees education, youth affairs, sports, tourism, art and culture — says that he believes the event will attract more foreign tourists to the province.
"We hope for the government and all related parties to be prepared for the sailing event, as it would also become an attraction for foreign tourists," Riefky said in a statement on Wednesday.
He said Sabang has become a destination for both foreign and domestic tourists due to its natural beauty. He also emphasized the need to be prepared for the influx of tourists.
"All preparations should be completed for the upcoming event. We hope the event will be successful without any obstacles," he said.
The event kicked off on Friday, with a total of 85 yachts departing from two starting points in Tual, Maluku, and Darwin, Australia.
"I expect to see thousands of domestic and foreign tourists at Sail Indonesia in Sabang," Riefky said.
According to I Gde Pitana, deputy for marketing development at the Ministry of Tourism, Aceh has immense potential to boost tourism to Indonesia. This is especially the case after winning the National Halal Tourism Competition (KPHN) in 2016 and the World Halal Tourism Awards (WHTA) 2017 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for World's Best Halal Cultural Destination and World's Best Airport for Halal Travelers, respectively.
