Jakarta. West Java will hold Sinapeul Durian Festival 2017 at Lengkongkulon Fish Market in Sindanwangi, Majalengka, on Dec. 9-10, to promote local durian fruits.
"The event aims to develop tourism in the region and introduce the Sinapeul durian to Indonesians and the world," Wawan Gunawan, head of cultural promotion at the Ministry of Tourism, said in a statement.
The event will feature a bazaar of durian-based products, an exhibition of tourist destinations in the region, art performances, games and a cultural parade.
With its 16 hectares of durian orchards, Sindanwangi has the potential to become a leading agro tourism destination in Indonesia. The Sinapeul durian is one of the most famous varieties of the fruit.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya expressed hope that the event will increase the international popularity of the Sinapeul durian and strengthen the region's "culinary diplomacy.
