Jakarta. The Makassar International Eight Festival and Forum, or MIEFF, was officially launched at Losari Beach in the South Sulawesi provincial capital on Wednesday (06/09).
More than 5,000 people attended the event, which showcased performances by the Indonesian Air Force, such as skydiving, aerobatic displays and a fly-past by Russian-made Sukhoi fighter jets.
More than 1,700 students from Makassar played traditional music instruments, including kecapi (lute) and kendang (drums) to accompany a Gandrang Bulo traditional dance performance.
Makassar Mayor Danny Pomanto said the event was a collaboration between local artists and the city administration.
"This is really the platform to show that creative economy has an appeal in Indonesia," Triawan Munaf, head of the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), said in a statement on Saturday.
The festival, which aims to attract a million tourists, will run until Sunday.
