Malang Flower Carnival Goes to Paris
Jakarta. The 2017 Malang Flower Carnival was held in Malang, East Java, on Sunday (10/09), attracting 90 percent more participants than in the previous year.
"This year we had 214 people participating, an increase of 90 percent from last year," MFC chairman Agus Sunandar said in a statement on Tuesday.
The participants came from various regions in East Java, including Banyuwangi, Jember, Blitar, Pasuruan, Malang, Batu, Surabaya, Probolinggo, Bondowoso, Kediri and Nganjuk.
Themed "The Exoticism of Archipelago Flowers," the carnival featured a competition for schoolchildren and the public to design original and big flower costumes.
"Last year's winners were not allowed to take part in the competition, but they could join the grand parade," Agus said.
The total prize in the competition was Rp 40 million ($3,050).
MFC was chosen by the Ministry of Tourism to represent Indonesia at IFTM Top Resa Paris in, an international tourism and cultural event held in Paris on Sept. 25.
