Nglanggeran Prepares for Spa Tourism
Jakarta. Staff of Purba Ayu Spa at the Nglanggeran tourist village in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, received skills training on Wednesday (09/08) from the Putri Kedaton Group as part of a program to boost tourism in the area.
The 20 therapists who participated in the training session learned the correct hand, foot and back massage techniques. They were also shown how to prepare food and drinks for spa visitors.
Trainees were given ingredients to make scrub products and spa masks, and they were also taught to how to correctly mix herbs for beauty treatments.
"This is to prepare spa therapists in the Nglanggeran tourist village so that they are more professional and ready to serve tourists," Putri Kedaton Group owner Lastiyani Warih Wulandari said.
As head of the Indonesian Therapist Spa Association (ASTI) in Yogyakarta, Lastiyani has also been involved in efforts to empower villages in rural areas over the past few years. Her goal is to create clean and healthy tourism spa destinations with certified therapists.
Gunungkidul is known as a one-day tour destination because visitors usually only spend an afternoon there before returning to Yogyakarta.
Sugeng Handoko, manager of the Nglanggeran tourism village, expects the spa to attract more overnight visitors.
There are currently 80 homestays in the area.
