North Maluku to Host International Fishing Competition
Jakarta. North Maluku is set to host the biggest fishing competition in Indonesia, Widi International Fishing Tournament, from Wednesday (25/10) until Sunday.
The competition will be joined by 350 participants, which consists of local fishermen and foreign fishermen from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Malaysia and East Timor.
Themed "North Mollucas as a World Fishing Destination," the event will highlight the province’s potentials in maritime and fisheries and tourism as core businesses.
"North Maluku is known as a fish barn and has marine tourism that can compete with other regions in Indonesia," North Maluku Governor Abdul Ghani said in a statement.
Besides a fishing competition, the event will feature an art and culture festival, culinary festival, coastal music festival, fish-cooking competition, national maritime armada parade, maritime seminar and the East Indonesia Maritime Expo.
The event has set a target of 500 foreign tourists and 1,500 local tourists.
