Solo Holds First Culinary Festival to Introduce Local Dishes
Jakarta. Traditional Indonesian dishes were introduced to domestic and foreign visitors during a culinary festival at Manahan Stadium in Solo, Central Java, on April 6-9.
The Solo Indonesia Culinary Festival, supported by the Ministry of Tourism, served as a bridge between tourism businesses and players in the culinary and creative industries to promote local dishes and traditional arts, especially those typical to Central Java.
"Indonesian food must gain global recognition as we have many delicious dishes," Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said in a statement on Friday (07/04).
Six traditional foods were introduced during the event. These were tongseng (stewed beef or goat's meat), gempol pleret (frozen sweet dessert containing rice-flour jelly), brambang asem (sweet potato leaves served with chili condiment), tengkleng (a soup made from goat's bones), kue putu (steamed pandan-flavored cake filled with palm sugar), and sate kere (skewered tempeh and offal).
Minister Arief said he wants to promote one of Indonesia's traditional dishes, soto, more widely. He also wants to promote satay, nasi goreng (fried rice), rendang (slow-cooked spicy meat dish) and gado-gado (steamed vegetables served with peanut dressing).
