Surabaya Promotes Tourism With Shooting and Marine Tournaments
Jakarta. The Surabaya Shooting Tournament 2017 and Bulak Fest 2017 were held in the East Java city of Surabaya over the weekend, drawing many tourists to the area.
The Surabaya Shooting Tournament 2017 was an international event that took place in Lapangan Kodam V Brawijaya, and presented four categories of competition: reaction shooting, target shooting, AA-IPSC (Air Action International Practical Shooting Confederation) and hunting.
The competition saw over 400 participants from different cities in Indonesia, as well as from other countries.
Surabaya regional secretary Hendro Gunawan said the activity is not only important for shooting sports in Surabaya, but also in the tourism sector.
The Surabaya regional government is expected to soon build a shooting field in the Suramadu area. "Later young people and also the community can take advantage of this facility," said M. Afghany Wardhana, head of the youth and sports department in Surabaya.
The second event, Bulak Fest 2017, presented a variety of interesting events, such as fish processing competitions, a videography contest with the theme "The Sunrise of Bulak," and a fishing competition to establish Bulak as a tourist destination.
The event drew Bulak fishermen as well as some participants from Pasuruan and Probolinggo. "There are a total of 60 ships and 10 boats from outside Surabaya," said Bulak head district Soeprayitno.
Bulak Fest 2017 was entering its second year with thousands of people participating last year.
Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said the events helped introduce culture, traditions and tourism in Surabaya to the international market.
