VP Kalla and Thai PM Prayut Agree to Boost Tourism, Trade
Jakarta. Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha agreed to strengthen bilateral relations between their countries during a meeting in Bangkok on Thursday (23/03).
According to a press release by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kalla and Prayut discussed diverse topics, including regional trade and tourism.
The two leaders agreed to foster an environment more conducive to trade and to boost tourism through a joint destination initiative.
The initiative may develop into a trilateral agreement with Malaysia as a potential partner, local news outlet Tempo reported.
"Such discussions for cooperation will have to involve the tourism ministers of the three countries," Kalla said, as quoted by Tempo.
He added that the discussions will focus on improving tourism between the three countries by examining strengths and weaknesses in their respective industries.
"The main point is to stimulate tourism to Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. We have to learn more," Kalla said.
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, Thailand and Malaysia are the two most-visited countries in Southeast Asia.
Kalla arrived in Thailand on Tuesday to receive an honorary doctorate in business administration from the country's Rajamangala University of Technology Isan.
