West Java's Cirebon to Host Kraton Nusantara Festival
Jakarta. Cirebon in West Java is set to host Kraton Nusantara Festival, on Sept. 15-20, to showcase the country's rich history and culture.
The event will be joined by representatives from 50 kraton (royal palaces).
"Indonesia has to highlight its rich history and culture to attract both local and international tourists," Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said.
The festival will feature Kirab Agung Prajurit Kraton (Kraton Guards Parade), kraton art performances, traditional ceremonies, a fashion show, a heirlooms exhibition and meetings of sultans and kings.
The festival is expected to welcome 10,000 guests.
The festival originates from Kraton Festival held by Javanese palaces in Solo in 1992. Three years later, tt was developed into Kraton Nusantara Festival, which was first held in Yogyakarta.
Cirebon first held the festival in 1997, which was opened by former Vice President Try Sutrisno.
