Jakarta. Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan and Tourism Minister Arief Yahya delivered speeches at the 2017 Wonders of Lake Toba Carnival in Balige, Toba Samosir, in North Sumatra on Sunday (10/09).
During his speech, Luhut said the carnival is a form of appreciation for North Sumatra's art and culture and that such events should be supported to preserve local traditions.
"The event can be held anywhere and feature any kind of activity, but the goal is one [which is] to preserve culture so it won’t be lost in modernization," Luhut said.
Meanwhile, Arief addressed the importance of the "3A requirements," which stand for attractions, accessibility and amenities, to turn Lake Toba into a world-class tourism destination.
"First, related to attractions, the Geopark Kaldera Toba must get recognition from Unesco. Second is accessibility, the airport must have international flights; Minister Luhut said the president himself will inaugurate the Silangit International Airport," Arief said.
As for amenities, a 602-hectare plot of land in Sibisa, Toba Samosir, has been cleared to be developed into an integrated resort, like those found in Nusa Dua, Bali.
