Another Long Weekend, Another Deadly Accident in Puncak
Jakarta. At least 13 people died and dozens were injured in a road accident on Jalan Raya Puncak, which connects the hilly side of Bogor with Cianjur, West Java, on Sunday morning (30/04).
"The accident involved a tour bus, three cars and a few motorcycles," West Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said.
According to Yusri, the bus most probably had faulty brakes and hit the vehicles in front of it.
Cianjur Police deputy chief Comr. Adjie Morrison said the victims have been brought to the Cimacan Hospital in Cipanas.
He added the police are unable to confirm the number of casualties as the evacuation is still underway.
"We are still evacuating people, identifying the victims," Adjie said.
Traffic conditions on Jalan Raya Puncak worsen every long weekend with Jakarta residents travelling to Puncak to enjoy its cooler weather and cleaner air.
Last week, a multiple-vehicle collision claimed the lives of four and injured six others on a hilly stretch of the same road. The accident was also caused by a bus with faulty brakes.
