Jakarta. The Cilacap branch of the National Narcotics Agency, or BNN, conducted a urine test on two Susi Air pilots who were suspected of flying under the influence after landing in Tunggul Wulung Airport Wednesday (11/01).
The two were believed to have been under the influence of drugs during a Cessna Caravan flight from Nusawiru Airport in Ciamis, West Java.
During the examination, Bas Hellings and David Eloy were both found to be positive for narcotics use. They were immediately banned from flying before being taken to Jakarta for further investigation at BNN headquarters.
Air Transportation Agency spokesperson Agoes Soebagio said in a press statement Susi Air, BNN and airport officials all acted accordingly.
The operation was a partnership between the Transportation Ministry and BNN with a commitment to flight safety and the eradication of drug use in the sector.
"Any pilots found to be using narcotics in a initial detection by authorities are banned from flying an aircraft. The pilot must be examined both by the air transportation agency and BNN," Agoes said Wednesday.
Pilots found to be using drugs are faced with heavy sanctions.
