Driver Involved in W. Jakarta Crash Charged, Face Six Years
Jakarta. The driver involved in the fatal crash in West Jakarta's Jalan Daan Mogot which killed four people in early hours of Monday (08/02) has been charged with manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
A car driven by the suspect Riki Agung Prasetio hit a motorcycle on Jalan Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, and then a tree at around 4:00 a.m. The two people on the motorcycle were killed as well as two passengers in the car. Three more car passengers were injured.
“The driver has violated the Law on Traffic and Land Transportation. He could face six years in prison. We also have named him a suspect,” Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto of the Jakarta Regional Police Traffic Unit chief said Monday evening.
West Jakarta traffic unit deputy Comr. Hasbi Ibrahim told Tempo.co that Riki had confessed he was driving "at 90 to 100 kilometers per hour. And even though his urine test taken at the Cengkareng Public Hospital [West Jakarta] was negative for drugs, he said he had been drinking beers [before the incident].”
Riki and his eight friends had been at a karaoke booth cafe in Kalijodo, Angke, West Jakarta, before the incident and had consumed nine bottles of beer. Despite being under the influence of alcohol, Riki drove.
By the time the car reached Jalan Daan Mogot, near an oil factory, it hit the motorcycle and tilted before crashing into a tree and electricity poles along the riverbank and rolling back to the middle of the road.
The victims have been identified as Zulkahfi Rahman and his wife Nuraini, who were on the motorcycle, and Tatang Satriana and Evi who were passengers in the car. Their bodies have been taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Senen, Central Jakarta.
Meanwhile, the three injured car passengers are Purnomo, Wahyu Hani Purwoko, and Wahyu Aditia, are now receiving medical treatment at the Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Kalideres, West Jakarta.
