Jokowi Inspects MRT Project Site in C. Jakarta
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, accompanied by Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, inspected the mass rapid transit construction site in Dukuh Atas, Central Jakarta, on Friday morning (30/09).
"The tunnel is ready. I think the progress has been great," the president said at the site.
After officiating the mass transport projects in 2013, Jokowi looks forward to the completion of the first MRT route from Lebak Bulus to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle.
"Hopefully in 2019, the Lebak Bulus—Hotel Indonesia traffic circle route will be completed. It is 15.7 kilometers long. I think it will take less than 30 minutes of travel; it will be very fast," Jokowi added.
The president said he wanted to see progress in the MRT construction in person, as he has been following all transportation developments.
He expects another construction project, the light rail transit, which will be developed by state-owned construction firm Adhi Karya in the greater Jakarta area, to be completed by 2018.
"In October, [the LRT developer] will sign the contract and will begin land clearing. It should not be delayed but if it is, I will have to know whether it is due to funding, technical or land procurement issues," Jokowi said.
He said there will be further inspections in the future, as he wants to keep an eye on the projects.
