Road Detours Expected as Construction Starts on Pancoran Overpass
Jakarta. Police will apply a "counterflow" road detour – allowing cars to go the wrong way – on the Cawang-Semanggi toll road during construction of a Light Rail Transit, or LRT, track and an overpass in Pancoran on Jalan M.T. Haryono in South Jakarta.
Jakarta Police's traffic unit head Chief Comr. Adj. Budiyanto said bottlenecks are expected on the busy spot as construction work will narrow the road from 12 meters to only 6 meters.
"To reduce traffic on Jalan M.T. Haryono from Cawang to Semanggi, we will apply counterflow from the 01.700 kilometer point to the 01.800 point," Budiyanto told Beritasatu.com on Friday (10/02).
"We'll test the new system from Feb. 13 to 17. We don't plan to apply it on public holidays," Budiyanto said.
Counterflow on the Cawang-Semanggi toll starts at 6.00 a.m. and finishes at 9.00 a.m. from Monday to Friday, and only applies to small vehicles. Buses and trucks are not allowed to use the counterflow lane.
